EMDR Therapy
At Glosna House, we offer a range of evidence-based therapies to support your mental health and well-being. EMDR therapy is a structured, highly effective approach to help people process and heal from distressing experiences, trauma, and life challenges.
If you’re curious about what EMDR is, how it works, and whether it could help you or a loved one, this page will guide you.

What is EMDR?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It supports the brain & body to process & release memories that may be “stuck”, causing ongoing distress, anxiety, or emotional pain. Through guided techniques, EMDR allows these memories to be reprocessed so they carry less emotional weight, supporting healing and personal growth.
Who can benefit?
EMDR can be helpful for people who:
-
Have experienced trauma or distressing life events
-
Experience anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or PTSD symptoms
-
Feel stuck because of past experiences
-
Want to develop coping tools and move forward
We offer EMDR for individuals from age 10 upwards. For anyone under 18, a session with a parent or guardian is required to discuss consent, the therapy process, and how to support the young person.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Will EMDR be painful or upsetting?
EMDR is safe and supportive. You may experience emotions or physical sensations during sessions, but Ciara will guide you gently, and preparatory sessions teach coping strategies.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Typically, clients have six preparatory sessions followed by 2–4 EMDR sessions. Ciara will create a personalised plan with you after your first session.
Is EMDR suitable for teenagers or children?
Yes, from age 10 upwards. For under-18s, a parent/guardian consent session is required.
What should I bring to my first session?
Just yourself. Your introduction session is for exploring EMDR, your history, and creating your personalised plan.
Can EMDR help with anything besides trauma?
Yes. EMDR can also help with anxiety, phobias, grief, and negative self-beliefs.
