Ability & Attainment tests (e.g., CAT4; WRAT5, etc) are used in educational settings to assess students’ current academic knowledge, identify students’ capabilities, strengths & weaknesses, help predict future academic performance, & help to identify suitable educational interventions to improve students’ academic performance.

 

Outcomes of these tests are used to guide & support students’ decision-making regarding subject choice & senior cycle programme options & to support their career development, including planning for higher education and/or further education & training  

 

Neurodevelopment tests are screening (rather than diagnostic) tests used to identify potential developmental disorders affecting cognitive, social, & language skills in children & adults. They help detect conditions such as ADD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and/or Dyslexia. 

 

They serve as a first step in identifying individuals who may need a more comprehensive evaluation/formal diagnostic testing (both adults and children) They are faster, less invasive & cheaper route to evaluating whether diagnostic testing is necessary. These tests are accepted by most Higher Education Institutions (HEIs/colleges & universities) as evidence of disability required to enter Disability Access Route to Education (DARE scheme), & by post-primary educational institutions as the necessary evidence for Reasonable Accommodations at the Certificate Examinations (RACE scheme).
