Training Gestalt Therapist

Sharon Cornally

Sharon is a third year Gestalt Psychotherapist student completing her Level 9 Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland and the South East Technological University (SETU).  She is a student member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP)

In addition to her psychotherapy training Sharon has over 16 years’ experience in holistic therapy, is an accredited mindfulness teacher, and a facilitator of adult mindfulness and self-compassion classes.

For the last fourteen years, she has worked in an advocacy service for people with disabilities empowering people to express their voice and be at the centre of all decisions in their life.  She is trained in trauma informed care and can work with people both verbally and non-verbally.  Sharon embodies the values of empowerment, respect, autonomy and being non-judgemental in both her advocacy work and her therapeutic work.

Working with Gestalt is about being present with the client, building a co-created therapeutic relationship that supports the client with any challenges that are arising in their here and now. Sharon believes that every person’s uniqueness and differences are their beauty and that every aspect of a person belongs and is welcome in the therapeutic session.  She trusts the wisdom the client inherently has in their body and mind and that they are the expert of their own lives. With compassion and curiosity, Sharon focuses on the here and now, helping clients explore their feelings, beliefs, and experiences as they arise.  Emphasising the co-created therapeutic relationship and personal responsibility, she sees her role is to create a secure, explorative space for clients to express themselves freely.  Sharon has a particular interest in working from an relational embodied approach through the sensing and movement of the body.
