FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Glosna House therapists accredited?

Our team includes:

  • student member/training therapists

  • pre-accredited therapists

  • fully accredited therapists

Each therapist’s accreditation status is available on their individual profile.

What is a pre-accredited therapist?

A pre-accredited therapist has completed their core qualification and is now building the additional client hours and supervision requirements needed for full professional accreditation.

What is a training therapist?

A training therapist is currently completing their professional training while working under supervision and within ethical and professional guidelines.

Are trainee and pre-accredited therapists supervised?

Yes. All training and pre-accredited therapists working within Glosna House receive ongoing clinical supervision and professional support.

What accrediting bodies are represented within Glosna House?

Our therapists may be affiliated with:

  • IACP

  • IAHIP

  • ICP-affiliated organisations

  • APCP

  • IAPTP

What is CORU?

CORU is Ireland’s multi-profession health and social care regulator. Counselling and psychotherapy are currently progressing toward statutory regulation through CORU.

At present, counselling and psychotherapy remain largely self-regulated professions in Ireland.

Can I claim psychotherapy sessions through my health insurance?

Many private health insurance providers contribute toward counselling and psychotherapy sessions depending on your individual policy.

We recommend contacting your insurer directly to check:

  • your level of cover

  • how many sessions are included

  • and what accreditation requirements apply under your policy

Is Glosna House registered with VHI, Irish Life or Laya?

Glosna House itself is not “registered” with health insurers as this is not how it works.

Insurance cover is generally based on:

  • your individual policy

  • the therapist’s accreditation status

  • and the accrediting body recognised under your plan

We are happy to provide receipts for attended sessions where applicable.

Can holistic treatments be claimed through health insurance?

This depends entirely on your individual insurance policy and the type of treatment being received.

We recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm what is covered under your plan.

Can I choose between a fully accredited therapist and a pre-accredited therapist?

Always. We are always happy to discuss therapist options with clients and help match you with the therapist or support service best suited to your needs.

Can Glosna House provide reports, letters or therapy notes for third-party organisations?

In some circumstances, therapists may provide attendance confirmation letters confirming that a client is attending sessions.

However, Glosna House does not routinely provide therapy notes, clinical reports or written disclosures to third-party organisations such as:

  • employers

  • legal representatives

  • schools

  • Tusla

  • funding organisations

  • social welfare agencies

  • insurance companies

  • family members

Therapy is a confidential and protected space. Any request for reports, letters or information sharing is considered carefully on an individual basis, taking into account:

  • confidentiality

  • clinical appropriateness

  • therapist scope of practice

  • ethical guidelines

  • and data protection responsibilities

If information sharing is appropriate, this would generally require the client’s written consent.

Can I attend therapy through a funded support scheme or third-party funding organisation?

Some clients access therapy through external funding supports or community schemes. As requirements vary significantly between organisations, we encourage clients to discuss this directly with us before beginning therapy.

Please note:

  • Glosna House does not enter into arrangements that require routine disclosure of confidential therapy notes or ongoing clinical reporting to third parties.

  • Attendance confirmation may be possible in some circumstances.

  • Approval for funding remains the responsibility of the client and/or funding organisation.

Will my therapist share information with anyone?

No. Confidentiality is a core part of therapy.

Information is only shared:

  • with your consent,

  • where legally required,

  • or where there is a serious safety concern.

Your therapist will explain confidentiality fully during your initial sessions.

Can I request copies of my therapy notes?

Therapy notes are clinical working documents maintained in line with ethical and data protection responsibilities.

Access requests are considered carefully and managed in accordance with GDPR, ethical guidelines and clinical considerations.

Can my employer, partner or family member contact my therapist?

A therapist cannot discuss your therapy with another person without your consent, except in rare situations involving legal or safety obligations.

Why might a therapist decide another service is more appropriate?

Therapists work within specific scopes of practice based on:

  • training

  • accreditation

  • experience

  • supervision

  • and clinical competence

If a therapist believes another service or clinician would better support your needs, this will always be discussed with care and professionalism.

What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling often focuses on specific difficulties, coping strategies and shorter-term support.

Psychotherapy may involve deeper exploration of:

  • emotional patterns

  • relationships

  • trauma

  • attachment

  • self-development

  • and long-standing difficulties

In reality, there is often overlap between the two.

How are therapists matched with clients?

We carefully consider:

  • presenting concerns

  • age

  • availability

  • therapeutic approach

  • personality fit

  • therapist experience

  • and client preferences

Clients are always free to request a different therapist if needed.

Do I need a referral to attend therapy?

No referral is needed to access support at Glosna House.

Clients can contact us directly to discuss what type of support may suit them best.

Leave us a message and we'll get back to you.
